Building and Maintaining an Effective Team
Managing a team can be a daunting task with a diversity of personalities and levels of ability. To lead in today’s fast changing world a manager needs to demonstrate two key skills. One is to be self aware in order to lead one-self. The other is to communicate effectively to achieve high performance working relationships with the team.
Aim
To enable managers to communicate more effectively using active and well tested communication strategies. The approach is positive and inspirational and managers will be encouraged to use coaching and facilitation skills to bring out the best in their people.
Objectives
By the end of the programme participants will be able to:
- Identify a range of communication behaviours
- Describe the emotional intelligence qualities and their impact on leadership
- Examine one’s own communication style
- Explain group roles and behaviours and the effect on team members
- Demonstrate rapport building, empathy and influencing skills
- Develop intervention techniques and enabling strategies for meetings
- Present strategies for dealing with conflict and confrontation
Content
The programme will cover assertive behaviours, influencing skills, group dynamics, team roles, conflict resolution and managing meetings. The course is be very practical and skills based and where possible we use an experiential process to consolidate learning. Learning methods include a number of practical exercises and debriefing sessions, case study group discussion and tutor input. We use the Keirsey Sorter personality profiling tool to encourage greater self awareness.
