Giving Constructive Feedback to Improve Performance

Introduction
Feedback is the fundamental part of leading people towards behaviour and performance appropriate to any given situation.  Letting people know how they are doing is essential in building a committed and motivated workforce.

The way in which feedback is given is extremely important. Both motivational and developmental feedback can build confidence and competence if delivered appropriately. Equally, poorly given feedback can have a negative impact and may lead to deterioration in performance.

No sensitive manager likes to have to give critical feedback.  Often this is because feedback on one’s own performance is not received well.  There is often a genuine  fear  that the giver and receiver will end up in either a shouting match or disgruntled silence!  Yet feedback given fairly can help to improve performance and motivate individuals to work harder and more effectively.  Click here for guidance on giving and receiving feedback.
